What is hearing loss?

Sound waves enter the ear and move down the ear canal to the eardrum. The eardrum vibrates and sends these vibrations to three tiny bones in the middle ear where they are amplified and sent to the cochlea. The cochlea is filled with fluid and tiny hair cells. The amplified vibrations cause the fluid to ripple and the hair cells move up and down eventually sending an electrical signal from the auditory nerve to the brain, where it is turned into a sound we recognize and understand.
